Title: Human Resources Director

Locations: ACE Casino Airport, ACE Casino Blackfoot, and Cash Casino Red Deer

Primary Location: On site. 40 Aero Crescent NE, Calgary, AB T2E 6W5

Travel: Travel to Red Deer on a biweekly basis and more frequently as needed. Travel to ACE Blackfoot (4040 Blackfoot Trail) weekly and as needed.

Salary: depends on previous work experience and qualifications.

We are an Alberta-based, family-owned business looking to grow our Casino’s leadership team. Our locations include our newly constructed ACE Casino Airport located at the Calgary International Airport, ACE Casino Blackfoot located in Calgary (formerly branded as Cash Casino), and Cash Casino located in Red Deer.

Job description

The Human Resources Director will report to the CFO and Ownership group as well as work closely and directly with the Regional General Managers to lead all strategic initiatives related to People for our three casinos.

The Human Resources Director will provide HR insights (turnover, headcount, job applicants, morale, etc.) to the Ownership group and Management team with interpretation, recommendations for success and implementation.

The Casinos employ approximately 500+ individuals across three casinos within departments of casino gaming operations, food & beverage, security & surveillance, facilities, marketing, and administration.

The Human Resources Director will be based in Calgary but will be required to travel to Red Deer as needed to ensure robust HR support is provided to all locations. There will be some evening requirements as needed to support the evening shift employees and managers with training and onboarding.

About the role

The Human Resources Director will manage and oversee the HR processes, including but not limited to talent acquisition, training and performance reviews, benefits and RRSP administration, leave administration, new hire orientation, and offboarding.

The Human Resources Director will be the AGLC liaison for Staff certification compliance and Alberta Government regulatory compliance, WCB, performance management, safety, and special projects.

HR Administration

Ensures compliance by monitoring legislation (Employment Standards, Human Rights, Privacy Laws, Employment & Labour Law, Payroll Compliance, WCB, OH&S) and recommends and implements changes and policies as may be required.

Ensures HR policies are applied fairly and consistently across the organization.

Full ownership over the WCB program, including claims, experience, trending, and reporting to ensure processes and procedures are in place to best monitor and manage WCB.

Demonstrates awareness of the cross-cultural impact of HR processes, coaches managers on the positive impact of a progressive, diverse, and inclusive work environment.

Analyzes, interprets, and makes recommendations based on HR-related data and reporting to support management decision making, links HR action plans with business needs.

Acts as employee advocate through effective employee relations.

Performance and Training:

Manage the formal annual and ad hoc performance management process for all managers and staff including quarterbacking the formal annual review process and compensation changes.

Provide ongoing training, support, coaching, and HR expertise to managers on all HR matters including employee selection, onboarding, compensation, development and coaching, training, discipline, performance issues, terminations, conflict resolution, etc.

Recruitment – Advertising, posting, active recruiting, and job fairs.

Works closely with HR Coordinator on recruiting process, orientation and brainstorms solutions to hiring and retention.

Active engagement in overall talent practices including workforce planning, success profiling, on-boarding, talent development and management, retention, and engagement programs. Coaches and counsels leaders on talent management practices.

Leading and managing the LMIA and foreign worker process with the support of an external consultant.

Works along with HR Coordinator in planning and executing job fairs and hiring strategies.

Leads our HR Initiatives and strategic projects.

Requirements for human resource director

Must work closely with Controller, Department Managers, and ownership group;

Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of personnel while maintaining effective working relationships, including leading standing HR meetings and regular employee information sessions;

Able to focus and thrive in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities;

Strong recruiting and demonstrated ability to improve talent acquisition strategies;

Demonstrated expertise training managers and employees;

Strong organizational, critical thinking, and communications skills;

Attention to detail and good judgment; and

Experience using and maximizing Human Resource Management Systems.

Qualifications

5+ years of work experience as an HR Manager, including oversight of recruiting, reporting, training, performance management, and strategy;

People oriented and results-driven;

Demonstrable experience with Human Resources metrics;

Knowledge of HR systems and databases;

Knowledge of a performance management system;

Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills;

Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company;

Knowledge of labor law and HR best practices (Canada);

Degree in Human Resources or related field; and

CPHR designation.
